DESCRIPTION
The music that True Love Always leader John Lindaman makes under his own name has been self-described as "prepared guitar." This might be another way of saying instrumental, experimental, and exceptional.

BIOGRAPHY
WHO IS JOHN LINDAMAN
AND WHAT IS HE DOING TO THAT GUITAR?
John Lindaman began playing the guitar and making self-released cassettes of original music in 1986, mostly to impress girls. Unfortunately, he picked the wrong kind of music, and here we find ourselves in 2013 with the release of Black Death DNA. In the interim, Lindaman played in groups such as The Coffeetones, True Love Always, The Mark Robinson, Aden, The Annie Hayden Band, The Instruments, Latin Hustle, Briars of North America, and The Solitary Cyclist. Some of these groups featured his vocals and songwriting, some his clean-toned, uncluttered guitar playing, some a more avant-garde sensibility present from his earliest days.
In 2010, eschewing the time-intensive process of writing pop music, he returned to a style of solo guitar improvisation with which he had begun working in the early 90s, influenced by Fred Frith, Robert Fripp, and Bill Frisell. Combining several inexpensive guitar effects units with the use of such prepared guitar techniques as false bridges, metallic resonators, alternative bowing materials and other means of physically altering the sound of the guitar, Lindaman improvises and records without the use of amplification. Unlike many guitar improvisers, there is very little equipment involved in Lindaman's music, and none of that equipment is expensive. What you hear is a single guitar recorded with no overdubs, no edits, and no preconception prior to hitting the record button; a direct connection between the music, the musician, and you.
