Dischord

Arlington, Virginia

Short Film

A short film shot at the Dischord House in Arlington, Viriginia. Dischord is a record label focused on documenting the Washington, D.C.-area music scene. It was founded in 1980 in Washington, D.C. by Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson from the band Teen Idles.

"In October 1981, we moved into a bungalow-style house in Arlington, Virginia (just across the Potomac River from Washington). We dubbed it Dischord House and moved the label's operations from our bedrooms into a small room off of the kitchen."
- Ian MacKaye

Arlington was coincidentally, also the birthplace of the Teen-Beat group.Filmed in December of 2015 by Mark Robinson with Ian MacKaye. Edited and music by Mark, 2016-2018.

ET CETERA

The footage for this film was shot on December 29, 2015 by Mark Robinson with Ian MacKaye. The film was edited and scored by Mark between 2016 and 2018.

Mark struggled with the music for the film for over a year (or years). After trying various music and sounds from the Dischord Records catalogue, he ended up writing an original piece of music. Unused soundtracks included spoken bits from Dischord releases, drums-only intros, and Mark's cover version of Red C's 'Jimi 45.'
